Maintaining proper strength and flexibility of leg and trunk muscles
will often help alleviate and prevent orthopaedic injuries of the
back. Below are some exercises and stretches for the back that you
may find helpful.

|
Rise up on elbows as high as possible, keeping
hips on floor. Stretch should be pain free.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Flatten back by tightening stomach muscles
and buttocks.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Tuck chin and tighten stomach, arching back.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Cross legs with involved leg on top. Gently
pull other knee toward chest until a comfortable stretch is
felt in the buttock/hip area.

|
|
|
|
With hand behind one knee, pull knee in
to chest until a comfortable stretch is felt in lower back
and buttocks. Keep back relaxed.
